Catch Up Time

I have been a little behind in my blog! Intero Metro has been going great! I continue to learn more each and everyday. The week before I went on Spring Break, I was continuing to work on the website usability survey for each industry. Today I looked at the results for the commercial section of the survey. So far so good. I still need contacts to send the other industry survey outs, but I should have all the information by Thursday. After completing my PR piece and continued work on the survey a few more projects have been given to me. One will be involving the companies internet site. I will be helping formulate the re-design for employees to get a better feel of what really goes on at Metro! The site can include what's new, updates, an employee article and/or spotlight section. This is all in the work of course. Second another PR assignment where I need to meet with the department managers and find out what is going to be happening in the department for 5-6months. I scheduled meetings with each of the managers for next week. This upcoming Thursday I have a busy day planned...I'll write then!

Day 3

I came to my cubical to find my laptop! I was happy to finally have one so I could get started on some projects. I talked with Darlene and Lois on a project they thought I could work on. I started to work on market research for the new website design. I had to set up appointments with each industries manager to discuss details and needs or concerns they could have. I am getting used to Windows OutLook and figuring out all of the inbetweens as to what it can do. I realized it is great for setting up meetings and communicating very quickly. I came up with some questions and added the ones from a previous survey. I got to work on that right away. Following in that time frame I was asked by Joe to work on a PR piece. I of course was delighted and went upstairs to HR to find out more information from the assignment. I talked to Ellen and got the background story. The PR piece was to me on Matt who was promoted and came to Wilkes to train a sales team on a product called Flo for the Health Care Industry. I went and borrowed a camera and took a picture of the group. I went back down to my department and started on that a bit. Most of the day I was on my own, which I liked because I felt like a real working individual. I liked to independence and trust I was given to work on the assignments. Of course I had a few questions here and there but everyone is always there for me to get help. I am excited for my day tomorrow at work, I am always learning something new.

Day 2

Today was a great day at work, I will have my laptop on Tuesday so I can get to work. I got to meet other members of the marketing and customer service department. First I talked with Joe of course when I got in, and I got to go into a meeting with some of the marketing department on a conference call with the President Joe. It was interesting to be apart of the meeting and see what I could learn. From there I went to talk to Lois who is the head graphics designer and works with the media section of the department. We went over the Metrowork site, the website, One Point, literature, flyers, e-communications, Twitter, digital files, the online catalog, market research etc! I loved talkint to Lois and learning what she does and her background. She discussed taking me to the advertising agencies that they work with so I can talk to them and get a feel for what really goes on. That trip will most likely happen next Thursday. Next I met with Darlene who deals with PR an research. We talked about market research a little more and what I can contribute, such as doing research, contacting those who will be valuable in the survey process and finally making the survey happen by creating it. I will also be working on press releases for the department. We discussed more on e-communications and quickbase. Quickbase is more used for sales representatives and can be calcuated by market for example and there are a few other options as well. The President of the company can easily access what is going on. I also got to talk to Darlene about myself and learn about her past experiances as well. Lunch time came about and Darlene let me know how close we were to the mall! So i ate lunch and went to check the mall out. I of course went to JCPenney to do some research for Ad Comp. When I got back I got to up to customer service. I forgot her name, I will hopefully learn everyones names shortly. I was introduced to so many people today. I got to learn a little history about the company and was amazed to know it started in a loft in NY! Learning about customer service was interesting becasue it necessarily wasnt what I thought it was. A lot is involved and everyone in the department was welcoming and told me not to hisitate to come down and ask questions or just to say hi! I then went back to Joe we talked some more, which I don't mind becasue Joe is great to talk to and keeps the fun in work going. I am excited for next week when I finally have my laptop and get to meet more people and see what projects I can work on.

First Day

My first day consisted of myself visiting the two local sites of InterMetro. I went to the wrong one first! Navigation systems can not always be relied on! As soon as I walked in I felt comfortable. I waited in the lobby to meet Joe, and noticed the paintings on the wall. Joe came down to bring me to where I would be working. I found out the paintings, which were all over the building were painted by a famous painter. The building before the office was a gallery. Interesting fact I thought! Joe and I got some coffee and went to talk in his office. Joe and I spoke about the internship, theYankees, InterMetro and I gained advice from Joe about the job hunt. Most importantly I took that I should never give up on a job that I want and being persistent will get me there. After our conversation I was able to meet some employees in the Marketing Department and HR. Everyone was very nice and I am excited to go back on Thursday and get started!
